Prismatic Defender® was founded in September of 2017 by two lifelong best friends, Jared and Rich, who have both played various trading card games since childhood. The “bug” for trading cards began many years ago. Like many kids, our obsession began with collecting sports cards and evolved with the creation of Pokemon. Our collections were impressive, despite the fact that we didn’t play Pokemon competitively.
As time went on, Yu-Gi-Oh! was released and our collection obsession grew even more. For a few years, we were both competitive Yu-Gi-Oh! players. When we discovered Magic: The Gathering, we fell in love with trading card games all over again. After building collections and actively competing in various formats of Magic, the idea of Prismatic Defender® finally dawned upon us.
After what seemed to be an eternity, Prismatic Defender® was born. It took over six months of rigorous testing, fine-tuning, and hours upon hours of hypothesizing to finally get a sample in hand that was up to our standards. Since we’re Magic: The Gathering players at our core, we debuted Prismatic Defender® to the public in May of 2017 at one of the largest Magic: The Gathering events in the United States, the Grand Prix in Washington DC. The enthusiastic response and positive feedback were overwhelming, confirming that vision was becoming a reality.
In March 2020, Prismatic Defender® acquired a brand that many players were already familiar with: Oracle Inserts! Our friends over at Oracle Inserts designed a holographic insert that fits into any standard-size trading card sleeve. With their amazing Gear, Fire, Skull, and Alpha designs already in place, we felt there was a perfect opportunity to combine both brands together to provide you with yet another option to fully customize your collections.
Holographic or “foil” cards are popular in MTG, Pokemon, and many other trading card games. They just look cool and, if we do say so ourselves, are quite eye-catching! Prismatic Defender® holographic card sleeves are layered with special hologram films to give your trading cards a unique look.
