I picked up a milk crate of comic books from the early 60s to about 1973. Original batman, action, adventure etc comic books plus a bunch i have never heard of (who the hell is sergeant rock?) I know absolutely bubkas about comic books. I am certain they are valuable, but i am unwilling to drop 23 bucks plus shipping to get the cgc to grade them so i can sell them..what are my alternatives? As far as condition, i would average this pile of comics at about a 7 out of 10. they were stored in a milk crate, but preserved by not being moved for 50 years..the ones on top were trashed, but everything under that was good.
Edit 6.18.11….
Thank you all so much, you were enormously helpful, i was able to take your advice and sell the entire pile to one collector. The original owner, as well as myself both did very well on the sale, and i owe it to your assistance, thank you so much!

The best way to sell a Comic Book is to Scan the front and back of each book. Then describe the Comic book by stating the Title, Volume, Issue Number and Date. Also, you should include the Grade of the comic book. Here is a link to About.com that may help you to grade your comic books [URL removed]
Another resource to help you with pricing your Comic Books is the Google Base Tools – Competitor Analysis. [URL removed]
I hope this helps. Good Luck!

There is money in collectible comic books, I was just looking on the dark side, there is a seller selling one comic book Amazing Spiderman 13. auction closing today and bids currently at $155.06. My suggestion would to do a google search for each comic book to find out what you have, look how other seller rates them or describe them, to find your price. See what kind of feedback the seller has to know if they are using good descriptions.

I have sold the once in a while old comic. They sell on the dark side like hot cakes. List them and be honest that you are not a comic dealer. Take great pictures and group them if you do not want to do them one at a time. ie Superman together or years together. They want to the year, the month and the edition. All of that information is usually on the first page at the bottom but not always.
Also do they smell musty? Have they been damp at all? Also on the dark side they breakdown the years with Golden, Silver etc. It does not take a genius to list. If you want to list here just go do your research on the dark side and come back here with the knowlege and list them.
There is money in comic books as some people are nuts for them. Also if you have a dealer where you live they will buy them from you for about 30 to 40% of their value so they can make profit.
Good luck and it sounds like fun.

Thanks so much guys! i tried pricing them on the bay with completed auction listings, but that was a nightmare, and the local comic shop offered me something close to 15% of what i am guessing the value is, so likely closer to 10%. I do not like being in a position where i have something valuable, but not having a connection in the field that will be honest and upfront with me.

I can also reccomend comicspriceguide.com for pricing, but you will need to register to get to the price guide. It’s free. Also if you can take some scans or pictures, people will help you with grading to give you an idea of how the condition is.

Thanks a lot for the explanation. I love reading books, comics. Lately, I mostly listen to audiobooks, as they help me absorb more material. On the site [URL removed] I read the review of the Crucible book and started listening to this audiobook. This is an authoritative drama written by Arthur Miller, it had many characters and one storyline.
