I would love to I.D. a beautiful seashell I recently found while at the Red Sea in Egypt (Gulf of Aquaba). I know there is a book out there specifically for shells found in Egypt’s Red Sea but thought I might try here first. If you are a knowledgeable collector or perhaps have access to this book I would love to hear from you if you might be of help… Thanks! ![URL removed]

You all helped tremendously! It is a Clanculus pharaonius! Thanks for all the input that led to its proper I.D. You all are great!

That’s the most intriguing seashell I’ve ever seen! Do you collect these? Or, do you sell them down by the seashore? LOL They say that the natural shapes in nature are impeccably designed…I think its’ shape would lend itself to architecture—say a major league sports stadium or, even a flying car of the future…
The one thing that bothered me about the photo is—was it dead when you handled it? The Clanculus Pharanius is known for its deadly neurotoxin—of which there is no known antidote!
But, still-it would make for a bitch’n flying car, eh? Or, the Roswell bowl! I love it! Where can I get one [besides going to Egypt]?

I realize you already have your answer, but I had to chime in. The shell is beautiful and so is the Red Sea.

God does some really neat artwork! We all need hyper cameras so we can really get into it like this!
Enjoy that shell! When I was a kid we spent every weekend shelling, but in Naples, FL. We even spent whole days gathering sand dollars by diving. Now we’re probably going to find them wrapped in tar. Hopefully BP can get its act together before this reaches every shore.
