Are you ready for the usps rate increase on january 17?

Another informative post to remind everyone of the USPS rate increase. I quote from ecommercebytes (can you relate to the name? LOL):

“Online sellers are dealing with increases in shipping costs this year, with the impending January 17th rate hike from the US Postal Service especially worrisome as they contain some big percentage increases across some classes of shipping services.

Just some of the changes we noted in our early coverage included the [URL removed]

Priority Mail will see an almost 10% average rate increase.
Prices for Parcel Select Lightweight will increase by 23.5 percent.
First Class Package International Service rates will see an overall increase of 21.6%.
Click-N-Ship will offer only retail prices and will no longer offer Commercial Base discounted pricing.
Commercial Plus discounts are decreasing and will eventually be eliminated.
You can download a spreadsheet containing detailed rates from the USPS website (look in the left margin), but it’s not user friendly and is sure to baffle people who aren’t familiar with Excel."

It’s a good thing we don’t have the extra fees on Bonanza! It makes it almost impossible to sell when the cost of shipping is considered.

I’m not seeing any change in First Class parcels. Unless I’m missing something. I know Commerical First Class went up.

I just did a First Class shipping label. Weight 4 ozs. Saturday it was $2.13. Today it was $2.60. Is that sticker shock or what?

I ship priority mail only on everything. The uspostal is a total nightmare on the economy-parcel select or what ever they call it. I purchased an item on ebay dec.30/2015. I paid for $9.00 priority ,seller sent parcel select ,it was just delivered 1/15/2016

@candyapple861, that’s what I was wondering also. I was getting ready to change the prices, then I noticed Retail is staying the same, but the Commercial is changing, plus Retail will still stay at 13 oz as the limit weight, but Commercial is offering up to 16 oz now. I think I read that right.

Yeah, What a pain in the keester. Some of the prior increases I just let slide but this one is Pretty BIG so just spend the last 2 evenings updating ship costs on my items (individually as have not had good luck in the past with batch edit).
I feel that this higher shipping is really going to kill sales for some of us.

If there was anything good to be said about the latest change, it is that weight on First Class parcels NOW goes out to 16 oz (from 13 oz wgt limit) so that is still cheaper than 1 pound of Parcel or Priority. Of course First Class is not INSURED automatically at no charge like Priority mail is.

The rate increases is going to kill Canada and overseas sales. Just checked on price change to Canada, Australia and UK and I was in total shock . 4 ozs to Canada $9.50, Australis $13.75 and UK $13.50. Freight almost cost more than the product. USPS service has not improved either.

I thought tracking was a given on first class. Last week my lady at my sub-station goofed and put my package in as envelope and received no tracking number. That was not good.

It’s my understanding that first class tracking is free if purchased at the same time as postage, but it only applies to first class packages, not letters.

Atomicdiner says: January 18, 2016

Yes, seems you cant put tracking on a letter and only on packages. Packages are classified as something rigid or thicker than a quarter inch. Hope you at least got a deal on your envelope as even a one oz package is now OVER 5 times the cost of a first class letter stamp.ov ge

Looks like the Post Office shafted the intermittent seller or mailer of packages.

They have eliminated the Regional Rate option and, as mentioned by O.P. and E-Commercebytes, any discount on Click N Ship, and now you have to find a Commercial Subscription service like Stamps.com, Endicia, etc.

Anyone use the ShippingEasy Starter Plan? I cannot find the page I saw last night that implied that you can’t manually enter your shipment info, meaning it requires you to interface your shop with their site. Anyone know??

I checked PayPal and see they still don’t have Regional Rate listed and they eliminated the ShipNow link saying it was an in-house tool that wasn’t really supposed to be used by customers.

If there isn’t any other ways to ship small, intermittent packages online, I hope the Post Office enjoys all the really small sellers (who don’t have a subscription service) lining up and giving them a piece of their mind while turning in their “now Retail packages”.

A bit harsh, but I am peeved by yet another assault on those struggling to make ends meet in this jobless economy.

WHOA, I did not realize that the Regional Rate options are now gone. I just looked and sure enough they are toast. I also could not find what I thought had changed about packages for First Class going to 16 ounces so scratch my comment above earlier. I read that somewhere and just assumed it was.
