Sold a pair of boots to a buyer in Virginia. I’m in California… I had calculated shipping set. The boots are over 3lbs. The buyer is only being charged $4.22!! I have to play close to $20…. What happened??
I can’t afford to give things away, which is what I’d be doing.
Thanks in advance…

Hi @liltiki,
Thanks for reaching out and sorry to hear about the trouble. We had a look at this item and see that you did not specify a shipping service when you created this listing. If you do not specify a shipping service, the shipping option will default to the least expensive available. This is why we always recommend specifying your shipping services.
Once a purchase is complete, you are not able to edit the invoice and add shipping in. If you are unable to fulfill the order at the shipping cost offered to the buyer, you will need to cancel the order by refunding the buyer in full, then relist the item with the correct shipping service so that the shipping cost is correctly calculated and the buyer can checkout with the correct price.
If your listings currently have unspecified shipping saved, you will want to first clear your domestic shipping options and then set the correct shipping. If you do not clear the current shipping options, any new shipping services you create will be in addition to the current unspecified shipping and the buyer will be able to select the less expensive option at checkout. You can clear your current shipping options in the batch editor. Point your mouse over the “My booth” link in the upper left-hand corner of any page, then select “Batch edit items” from the drop down. Select the “Shipping” tab to the left of the tool bar at the top of the page, then check your listings and set the option to clear your current domestic shipping services and apply your changes. Once your shipping services have been cleared, you can set the correct shipping options on your listings.
Depending on what you would like to do, there are several options [URL removed]

Select the “Shipping & Returns” link on the blue tab, 5th tab on the right. Here, you can create shipping profiles which you can assign to your listings in the batch editor (additional information below).
“To set up shipping on an individual item”
When you are creating a new item or editing an existing item, you will see options on the editing page to add shipping. Whatever rules you apply will apply to that item only.
“To set up shipping on items in bulk”
You can add or edit shipping to your items in bulk via our Batch Editor. Once you open the batch editor you will click on the “Shipping” tab on the left side of the tool box at the top of the page. Select your listings and set your preferred shipping options, then apply your changes.

I have had this problem so many times and for SO LONG that I have also taken to calculating for flat rate on most items (also from coast to coast…we live in Oregon) and then putting in a disclaimer that shipping is generally less expensive to the West Coast and I will refund overages through Paypal. I still have some items that are calculated but I have to check from time to time because sometimes the check marks by the shipping method disappear (I have gone through NUMBEROUS times and changed them back) and that reverts it to the next lowest shipping method which is Media Mail!! It is a bit easier to check on the calculated shipping items through Batch Edit Items and then click on Shipping.

I sold and item in December with the shipping clearly posted as $28.00 .Bonanza gave The buyer the option for FREE SHIPPING.I refunded the buyer, canceled the order and explained to buyer that shipping was not free. They repurchased from me . I reported it to support but nothing was changed on my end. Now I charge from west coast to far east coast zip code and state that I ship by zipcode and will refund overage.
I can’t afford to give free shipping either.

Not sure what happened in your case but there are several ways to set shipping cost and method. You can use your item traits when item listing is crested. You can set in booth settings and you can just set when you created the listing manually. You can also use batch editor to change or set shipping cost or method. I usually use flat rate on all items and free shipping when possible. Priority mail Flat is simplest to use because USA shipping don’t vary much any place in country if any. I also usually create a listing and after created open and check shipping details to see if correctly set based on size & weight of package.

Here’s the deal. When you create a listing, the calculated shipping you choose is NOT saved on the first go around. It will ALWAYS be shown as unspecified and you ALWAYS have to go back and edit to make it save your choice. If you go with flat rate, it will ALMOST ALWAYS display a free shipping option that you have to get rid of. The way I get rid of it is to edit my listing, choose “details are in the listing”, then save, then go back and reedit, and enter the flat rate shipping I want. This has been a known issue for years.

I am not sure, but i thought i heard something about if you dont pick a specific shipping method (priority, first class, etc) if you only pick “unspecified” even tho you put in a cost, it will come up as free. Not sure why. And its really easy to do, just put in a cost and not hit how it will ship….so i went in and anything i have where i dont specify free shipping, i make sure i put either 1st class or priority in

For some reason the buyer got to chose Media Mail… the question is… will Bonanza makes this right? Do I have to cancel? Do I ask for more money from the buyer??
