The script is Arabic, the language is Persian.

The painting is of a Persian woman.

The inscription seems to be a poem about Imam Ali, cousin of the Prophet, Muhommad. The poem roughly translates as

“The l Light of Ali is bright; I like Ali very much.”

The poem ends with the painter’s name which is difficult to translate…perhaps H. Hamedani

Your painting is beautiful. She looks to be a Catholic or Orthodox saint. I thought she might be Joan of Arc, but I have never seen Joan depicted like this. Joan of Arc usually always has armor, a banner and a horse. But that’s not to say this isn’t her.
If it is a saint, she is ready for battle with even a horn hanging from the tree.
In paintings of saints, everything in the picture means something. There would be a association of something for her holding a seashell.
fisheaters.com has a nice list of saints and what they are pictured with.
I did some research of Joan of Arc and could not find this image. You may have some luck by searching “female saints in battle”.

Thank you so much Montrose and littleroses for your responses.

@ MONTROSE- i believe you are right. If this is The Poem about the Ali brother in law of Prophet Muhammad then the woman is Fatimah who was a daughter of Muhammad and Khadijah wife of Ali and mother of Hasan and Husain. She became the object of great veneration by all Muslims and that is why this may be she. Also she is the only member of Muhammad’s family that gave him descendants, numerously spread through the Islamic world. She was also involved in three significant political actions.

This is awesome, thank you so very much for your help!

@ littleroses your answer is very informative and i believe that everything in this painting has a meaning. I think her head dress does look like Papal Tiara. The word tiara itself occurs in the classical annals to denote a Persian headdress, particularly that of the “great king.”

Thank you! I appreciate your answer very much!
