I’ve been taking a look under Update Items as a Group and have noticed something I am very glad to see. It looks like MGMT has made it a point to mention that the forward slash / should be used in the place of this right here… “|” (of course the quotations are not included) otherwise they mention that the “|” will show the listing as having variations. I am seeing this mentioned under Update Items as a Group when I do have this symbol right here | in my attribute list per a listing. At least I think it was just recently added by MGMT…
I’ve also noticed that with the Google shopping attribute changes I am not seeing the identifier false attribute under Update Items as a Group when it comes to item categories such as handbags, clothing, and jewelry. It looks like we will not have to worry about the identifier false attribute with those types of items? I know that with clothing and jewelry we did not have to worry about an MPN, UPC before, so I’m hoping it is staying this way (other than we did have to make sure and put the color attribute for jewelry).
It looks like the collectibles category will no doubt now have to have the identifier false attribute since I am still seeing it under Update Items as a Group when I do not have the MPN, UPC. I thought though for handbags we did have to have an MPN, UPC before? Maybe I am wrong. It’s easy to forget a rule when it comes to Google shopping.
If my conclusions are wrong in anyway, please let me know.

You can read all about Google’s Unique Product identifier rules [URL removed]
[URL removed]
This is what it says about Apparel and [URL removed]
“Unique Product Identifier Rules
Apparel [URL removed] ‘brand’ is required. Additionally, for the categories listed below, you must submit at least 1 out of ‘gtin’ or ’mpn’: ‘Apparel & Accessories > Shoes’ ‘Apparel & Accessories > Clothing Accesories > Sunglasses’ ‘Apparel & Accessories > Handbags, Wallets & Cases > Handbags’ ‘Apparel & Accessories > Jewelry > Watches’and this is what it says about the Identifier_[URL removed] [URL removed]
“[URL removed] in categories where unique product identifiers are required but no such identifier exists for an item (e.g. custom goods), submit ‘identifier exists’ with a value of FALSE.”
Hope that helps…they’re not terribly good at making things [URL removed]

*Update on attributes for clothing, accessories and jewelry (this does include handbags) after emailing back and forth with [URL removed]
An MPN, UPC are not required.
These types of items are required to have a brand.
Clothing is required to have a size (including shoes).
Jewelry is required to have a color. It’s okay to give a color as gold even if the jewelry is not real gold. Basically you could be saying the color is gold tone, so gold is okay to use just like silver would be okay to use in the case of a silver tone finish.
*Here is one email response of a few that I received from [URL removed]
“Hello Sharon
No problem. I am always happy to help you.
Google shopping does not require the UPC or MPN for clothing, accessories and jewelry. Brand is required.
Just because the seller does not know or have the Brand does not mean it is not required. And using identifier_exists set to FALSE will not negate the requirement. If the Brand is not available, the item cannot be sent to google shopping
The implementation of Identifier_exists is to replace sellers needing to file the google exemption form paperwork with google shopping. The rules about it have not changed. If the item is vintage, hand/custom made goods, then the UPI’s are not required and using identifier_exists set to FALSE would be correct.
I hope that helps.

Unfortunately for collectibles where once they were exempt from the required attributes, they are no longer automatically exempt. Judy said older ones are but newer collectibles will have to have an MPN or a UPC and of course the Brand attribute. If not, then we must suppress the item from our feed as the identifier_[URL removed] attribute would not be true to that listing. What qualifies a collectible as being older I would imagine would be pre-UPC some time in the 1970s but I am not 100% sure of this.
I did email in asking about what qualifies an item as being “vintage” (older) but have not heard back. I am sure it is very busy at this point and I had already emailed in quite a few times prior to that and was given very helpful information. :) It would be wise for someone to email in and ask about this or check the Google forum.
I hope this helps everyone. I know I do not have all the answers but I had put in this thread that I would come back with an answer. Sorry that I am late.
Best of luck with the attributes and yippee that they are still going easier on us when it comes to the clothing, accessories, and jewelry. I do remember Judy saying a long while back that if we have those attributes to still include them because we just never know when Google shopping might just make it a requirement one day for the clothing, accessories, and jewelry.
