Have you tried the 13% advertising versus 19% advertising

Hello all.

Have you tried the 13% advertising exposure versus the 19%? Or have you went from 13% to 19% and saw a difference or went from 19% to 13% and saw a difference in items sold?

I notice at 19% we get Nextag and Bing exposure along with Google shopping.

Curious to know because at 19% and with adding Paypal fee, although it looks like not much of a difference, it is. So, a lot would depend on Nextag and Bing exposure in what they can give in my opinion.

Everyone’s items are different, I know, but if you have any true insight/experience for comparison please do share.

thanks,

Sharon

At one time or another over several years here I have tried all of the paid advertising levels. Basic to 9% made a difference for sure. 9% to 15% (I think at that time) made little difference. As time has passed the advertising fees have changed (all gone up)as well as the shopping venues changing their requirements. For the past year I have stuck with the 13% mainly because it does get more exposure than the 9% plus our profit margin does not allow for 19% if we want to stay competitive. But what we also did before Xmas sales was add 1 test of Turbo Traffic for $24.95. The increase in views and sales was remarkable and have only just this week had to add another round of Turbo Traffic because we sold enough using it to keep it active for over 2 months at no extra cost. Much less cost to us than straight 19% with no significant change in views thus orders. I don’t know your product market but I would recommend lower advertising fee and add Turbo Traffic. Nothing will make a difference if your listings are not in compliance with the shopping venues though so make sure you are up to date before investing more money (IMO). Hope this helps and good luck to you. Been here since 2009 and would recommend to anyone who asks :-)

Interesting Gearseller. I have wondered about the turbo thing also, so your post has been VERY helpful. At 19%, this would also be hard for my store as far as profit margin goes, too.

Hello Empress, I have tried 9-13-19 per cent advertising fees, I found for my selling Antique and collectible Items 19% was not of help, I had been at 9 and 13% prior to that so I thought I would try 19%. So then I tried going from a silver to gold membership and dropping back to 9% advertising fee. My views dropped about 22%. I went back to 13% on Jan 13, My views are back close to where they were at 19% and I expect them to be all the way back about Feb 20. I keep a end of month log of all views, Paid advertising views and Number of sales. For me 13% seems to be the right place to be. It may be different for you. I suspect that what you are trying to sell will determine if 19% is the place you should be.

Did you go from a gold back down to a silver membership when going to 13%? Yes, I’m guessing it will take time to tell if I need to be at 13% as opposed to 19%. I went up from 9% for this booth to 13%. I’m pretty sure I will see what 13% brings and then purposely go up to 19% so that I can see…

so that I can see if there is a difference between the two. Thank you.

Hello Empress, I had a silver membership a couple years when I was at 13%. So I thought if I went to gold membership I could possibly drop to 9%, I tried that. I lost too many views. So I am back to 13% with a gold membership. I found Nextag and Bing to be the wrong place for my advertising

Thanks for responding back. Your information has been helpful.

I started at 9% for a year then went up to 19% for a couple of years, then I went down to 13% and have been there for a year and at 13% I seem to have more sales then I did at 19%.
I took a survey of persons who bought items about 5 months ago asking where they saw my item on what search engine and all said google, except for 4 people. I haven’t tried the turbo.

Thanks for sharing BargainHunters. I wonder if at 13% with it not including Nextag and Bing and with the advertising strictly going towards Google, that maybe it shows Nextag and Bing are not profitable to invest in compared to Google shopping. It’s a thought.

I do 9% and i am satisfied with the sales for that.I’am not willing to pay more than that.

I have had turbo traffic made little difference. If your in the search your in the search doesn’t matter the percent . make a great listing and have items people want. And they will sell.

Thank you for sharing Jenna.

I have 4 booths and I have tried each % in each of my booths, and honestly, to me, it does not seem to make any difference.

Just sold an item on 1/30 for $30 & $6.35 shipping to an “outsider” as i call them (non ebay or bonanza members, someone that found my item on the web or while searching bonanza) I currently have my booth set at 19%, I was not charged the full 19%, was only charged 15.7% of value, which came to 5.70 according to my bill. I was able to bring my final value fee down to about 60 cents using my tokens which i have saved., so basically i received the full price of the item with near 0 fee’s (other than paypal)

I really believe it just takes the right buyer to come along that is looking for your item. Great pictures, description, price & fair shipping doesn’t hurt either.

Cool. Glad that your FVF cam down. That’s great. How long have you been at the 19% for? Did you go from 13% to 19%. Or whichever percent that you came up from, were you able to tell a difference in sales? TY

Empress, I have been at 19% for about a month or more when i received the sale. You do not always get charged that exact percentage from Bonanza, I belive it depends on how many times they click on your item, where they come from, etc etc. But even before, i was charged a lower amount than I picked.
