Mailing to canada

I’m thinking it might be a good idea to offer mailing/shipping to Canada. I’ve checked USPS site but it is confusing as to what is needed. Do I have to fill out any forms? Also, is first class international the best way? Can I track and insure packages going to Canada? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

To ship to Canada, you will need to fill out the forms

For First Class International PS Form 2976 which is the Customs Declaration CN22 Sender’s Declaration. It is a small form of copies of 1 page with a green form attached to the package

For Priority there is another 2976-A and is a larger form .

If you fill out the forms on line, you will be given a copy to attach to the package…which I normally have the post office do.

Personally, I use first class international (maximum 4 pounds, $400) unless the item is over $150.00, then I use priority. So far no problems.

Priority is trackable if scanned in the target country
First Class is trackable to customs, but I have found that if I go to the postal service of the country I send a package, I can sometimes get tracking information…not always.

You can insure anything

This is where you will fill out a custom’s form

See edit comment above

I ship to Canada first class international. Been doing it for years. So far no problems at all. I have problems with Singapore and sometimes France.

Thanks Debbie’s Corner. I’m very confused as to how I set up shipping to Canada. There is a general area to indicate this and then when adding/editing an item there is another. Do I fill in both?

From what MY guys tell me, NOTHING is trackable once it leaves the U.S. until someone in Customs in the designated country scans it again! There are some countries that I just won’t mail to anymore because of their sloppy Customs offices and taking forever for items to show up! Great Britain and Germany are the worst countries for this, unfortunately. I’ve had too many irate customers taking it out on me because their items are stuck in Customs for a month or more! I don’t need the drama! Also, because it is insured does NOT make it any more trackable! I ship First Class International to Canada and Australia quite often with no problems at all! I’ve had 1 or 2 that I sent Priority International on buyer’s requests, but normally don’t send that way. You won’t now until you try.

IF SCANNED…and that’s it in a “nutshell”…I do Canada, Australia and Japan with no problem…anywhere else on case by case basis after exchanges of messages to make everyone is on the same page!

Hi, once you get a few sales to Canada, you’ll find it’s fairly easy to ship there. I’ve done several, as well as to other countries with no issues so far! (knock on wood!)
