I ordered a cpu on the 3/1/15, I received a transaction complete email the same day. I then received an email receipt from paypal informing me that I had sent the payment, the only thing was, it was to a different merchant. 3 days later I received another email from paypal informing me that my payment had been returned by the merchant. There was something not right about the email, this is a copy….
Dear Alice-Marie O’Brien
This email is to let you know that returned the payment of 11.11 GBP you made on . This means that the transaction is not complete and the funds have not been transferred to the recipient.
Your funds will be returned to your account. Please contact the recipient if you have questions about this transaction.
Yours sincerely,
PayPal

There is no name for who returned the payment and also the date is missing. There was no paypal logo either. I have checked and all the other paypay emails I have and none of them look the same as that one.
I have tried to contact the original merchant here on Bonanza but have had no response, he had good feedback too. I also contacted the second merchant via his/her email which was provided on the receipt from paypal. What can I do other than what I already have done to try and find out why my payment was returned? Am I entitled to an explanation? I have yet to check my bank statement to find out IF my payment has actually been returned or not.

No logo, no transaction number, this sounds like a scam email…I have seen a few before…do as suggested contact paypal (forward to spoof@paypal.com)..usually if money is returned you are contacted by the seller/or site also
Also, check email of origin, is it PP, and mouse over any links (do not click on any of them) and see what the IP of it is (it will usually show in lower left hand, corner). It may look similar to PP but probably isn’t
Also never had an email from PP that says Dear Anyone

Log into your PayPal account (NOT through any links in any email)… do a direct login. If your money was refunded, you will see that info in your PP account.

Forward it to spoof@paypal.com. They will tell you very quickly if it is a legit email.

In our personal experience, if you sell on multiple platforms, it can be tricky to keep your inventory synched. On my boss’s account, we’ve sold something on another site and were unable to fill an order. Also, with the names being different, some have different business names on their paypal account because they are probably selling on multiple sites, nothing shady, my paypal was set up 16 years ago and confuses people when I give them a refund. It’s nothing sneaky, just couldn’t get the same store name for all the ecommerce sites.
BUT… if you received an email that looks different than a regular paypal email, send it to the spoof@paypal.com address and they will let you know. For quicker service you can call Paypal direct and they can tell you if the money was actually refunded. Make sure you have the original transaction number and amount & they can figure it out very quickly.
Hopefully it was just a simple misunderstanding, but just know with paypal you are protected!
