I got this about 2 years ago at an estate sale. The lady told me her mother got it to wear when her husband died in the 1950’s. That all sounds plausible but what is the silver circle around it for? It was not put on after the fact as you can tell the Brooch was made that way. Anyone know what it’s for?

Yes, it is a scarf ring. The black stones do infact represent Life & Death and these were mainly worn at funerals. It is a lovely piece. Looks nice!
