I never used social media, but I thought this article was interesting and there is a video with it. I know a lot of people use it.
Facebook’s Instagram saw the biggest year-over-year drop — usage was down 23.7 percent this year, closely followed by Twitter (down 23.4 percent), Snapchat (down 15.7 percent) and Facebook (down 8 percent), the study found.

Hi [URL removed]
According to the article, while use has fallen here, it has increased in other countries. Didn’t see where the writer offered any theories as to why usage has dropped.
I don’t use any phone apps, and that’s what article is about. Eliminates my theory, because people take their phones with them, vs in-house desktop use, and out-of-doors more often in Summer.
I use Pinterest more than anything. Attending a webinar on using Promoted Pins. I’ve used their PPC advertising before. I’m limping along with FB, because I don’t like it a whole lot. Most value thing is being able to create slideshows in post. Was on Wanelo, but left yrs ago. I’m a handmades seller, and that site seemed to be more teen—>35 reselling.
Left Twitter yrs ago, but back on now. Usually happens when I want to participate in something that requires a specific acct. I tweet but don’t visit there often. Posts too tiny for me to enjoy and some include pics when you tweet, and some tweets don’t share pic. Frustrating!
Good luck to you in your selling!
Sandi

No, I do not do social media and most likely a factor in the so few sales I get on both Bonanza & Etsy. However, eBay is my main selling venue and eBay is the best venue for my items anyway, so that is where I put my time, effort and $. Bonanza is what it is; not what it was several years ago, so whatever will be, will be…

I use it. I never thought it really worked till I started having people “like” the item i tweeted and follow me, and a few times someone from pinterest would contact me to ask if the item was still available or if i had another one (if the item sold) same with pinterest. I never did get into Instagram, never quite understood it.

Hi StarletVintageJewel!
I rarely use social media on my phone either and prefer sitting down at a computer for the integration factor. The sites are a lot easier to use when you don’t have to hit tiny little buttons and type furiously with just two fingers.
The article only mentioned Android users and not any other type either so it is a bit one-sided. It also looks like Facebook is still leading the charge overall in use.
Good luck with sales all around!
Becky

Nope. Too much big brother tracking and I am a somewhat private person and respect the privacy of others.
Probably one of the Very Few Now people in the US that does NOT own a cell phone either.

This may sound odd coming from someone that sells online, but I honestly feel the decline in social media use is directly related to the ads that flood the timelines (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter in particular). People are turned off by this. I sell, and it irritates me that I must wade through ads to actually socialize with friends and family. As a result, my social media use has declined across the board. The only way I sell on Facebook is through local online yard sale groups, which, by the way, has been more lucrative than any other online selling site. And, there are no fees involved, although I am sure that will change in the future.

Yeah, I heard about it. I use some of the Social Media sites. but find them Less than Successful. at least so far. but I’ve been at it for a long time. LinkedIn I’m trying again but I may as well close up because all I get is Connections, but no Business Deals/ Inquiries from it.

I tried on Facebook but didn’t understand how to setup and use it so I dropped it after a short time.
I just tried Pinterest a day or two ago and I’ll see what happens with it.
I don’t have a cell phone (never had one either) and don’t plan to get one as all I see are people with phones taped to their ears all day long. At work driving, etc..
I sell on Ebay with a few items on Etsy and here in Bonanza. Not much business here in Bonanza but I’ll hand arounf for a few more years. Etsy is slow but Ebay is still the main source for me to sell.
I don’t think I’m going to waste my time by trying the various social networks… seems they’re designed mainly for people with nothing to do.

That’s funny….I sell more items that were just tweeted by me (or someone else by tweeting or re-tweeting) than any other way! I have my twitter hooked to FB, wanelo, tumblr and other social networks that allow it. Why wouldn’t I use it? It’s one of the fastest and best ways to get your items seen by more people without having to do it all yourself! My Twitter followers have also grown tremendously too since I started doing my own tweets and have MANY new followers who re-tweet my items! For me….it’s a no brainer with only about 2 hours/night involved in setting the tweets up in tweetdeck! JMHO!
