Obverse: The large coat of arms of the Republic of Latvia, with the year 2007 inscribed below, is placed in the centre. The inscriptions LATVIJAS and REPUBLIKA, each arranged in a semicircle, are above and beneath the central motif respectively.
Reverse: A SNOWMAN with the numeral 1, with the inscription LATS.
Edge: Two inscriptions LATVIJAS BANKA, separated by rhombic dots.

From 2001 The Bank of Latvia had a tradition to put into circulation special coins. The total collection of 1 Lat coins consists of 24 coins (all in limited edition) with different motives.
Starting from January 2014, Latvia has started to use EUR instead of Latvian Lats, therefore, owners of these coins will become the owners of authentic and rare treasures because people use to keep them for private collections
