Machaerocereus eruca is of the strangest of all cacti with odd wildly spined form. Its also known as the creeping devil, or caterpillar cactus. The stems slightly raise at the tips and create a crawling pattern up the stem. The long whitish recurved spines are likened to huge caterpillars. Its best habitat is sandy plains or coastal sand dunes.
