This plant has been grown since ancient times. Root grown from this plant are harvested to make the sugary confection everyone knows and loves. Makes a lovely ornamental perennial shrub that will make a nice border flower. From early summer through fall, masses of 3 inch very pale pink to white blossoms accent forest green foliage on an upright, vigorous, multi-stemmed shrub that grows to about 4 feet. Thrives in most soil types, but loves well-drained moist conditions. Grow as a standard or hedge. Hardy deciduous shrub for zones 5+
