Bladder senna

Latin name: Colutea arborescens

Bladder senna is originated to Western, Southern and Central Europe.
It is a hardy, undemanding medicinal and ornamental shrub that reaches heights of 1-4 m (3.3-13.1 ft).
This plant contains coluteaic acid, canavanine, flavonoids and bitter substances.
In folk medicine it was used as a laxative.
It is often planted to protect the soil from erosion.
Like other legumes, bladder shrubs are able to fix nitrogen in the soil.
