Perfume ~ Scent Bottle

The perfume bottle of glass: this marvelous object proclaims the spirit of the perfume. It is it's constant companion, a witness to the union of perfume with the skin. Long thereafter, it will remain an invariable symbol of the perfumed air...Gerard Delcour Flacons, Verre

NOW... MY OBSESSION HAS BECOME YOUR FOUND TREASURE.

This is a wonderful reproduction of a rare Art Nouveau frosted glass perfume with a lovely design of a winged "moth" lady. The original bottle for Femme Ailees was designed by Lucien Gaillard and manufactured by Verreries Brosse in 1913.

This bottle has a wonderful story behind it (see below)....It is in exceptional/pristine condition. It does NOT include the original gift box.

Maker’s Mark: Brosse, copyright MMA 1986.
Measurements: 4 3/4" wide, 2 1/2" high and 1" deep.

Condition: It’s in excellent/perfect condition being free of wear, chips, cracks or any other damage.

Shiseido introduced a new perfume “Enchanting Dance” to commemorate its sponsorship of the "Dance" exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (MMA) in 1986. Brosse reproduced this bottle for a limited edition for Shiseido perfume for that exhibit.

This amazing bottle was based on the perfume bottle for Femme Ailees (Winged Woman) by Les Parfums De Clamy of Paris in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Many have thought it was designed by Lalique....this is not true...although it is very similar to the very early art deco and art noveau designs by Renee Lalique.

The original bottle was designed by Lucien Gaillard and originally made by Verreries Brosse in 1913. The date it was discontinued is unknown...but it was very early and not in production long. The original bottle for Femme Ailees by De Clamy has no markings whatsoever.

In 1986 the original design was reproduced for a very rare limited edition of a Shiseido perfume called "Enchanting Dance"....as stated above. This was to commemorate its sponsorship of the "Dance" exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (MMA). The Met received the royalties, because the prototype of the bottle made by Verreries Brosse, was at the time, in the museum's collection....it remains there till this day.

During the exhibition Shiseido's new fragrance was sprayed around the Costume Institute's galleries, throughout the nine months of its duration, from December 8, 1986 til September 6, 1987.

These reproductions are now considered by serious collectors as true treasures.

They were only made for a limited time to coincide with the exhibit and are no longer manufactured... becoming more and more difficult to find as time goes on!

The bottle holds 20 ml of perfume.

These gorgeous Art Noveau reproductions are very hard to find because they were only made for a limited time to coincide with the exhibit. Please see it on page 96 of Jones-North's Commercial Perfume Bottles.

Rare Art Nouveau Brosse Perfume Bottle Lucien Gallard Design

This amazing design was no doubt influenced by the fantastic dances and costumes of Loie Fuller. The original Clamy bottle was called "Femmes Ailees" and was designed by Lucien Gaillard in 1913.

Today, the original bottles of this design are only found in museums or very advanced collections.

This bottle was reproduced by French manufacturer Brosse in 1986 for the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Once again, the measurments are:4 3/4" wide, 2 1/2" high and 1" deep.
