Item description
(Internal #Q128-H) Excellent hand carving of a medium, medium JUMPING DOLPHIN in Satinwood on a natural PARASITE WOOD base, full carving measures 5-1/2" long x 3-1/2" wide x 5" tall; carved in Bali.
PARASITE WOOD is caused by a parasite boring into the tree which creates these fantastic mushroom shapes.
The deformed wood is cut away from the tree, treated, and carved. Beautiful quality carving to display on coffee table or lighted display cabinet.
SATIN WOOD (also called Crocodile wood) (Zanthoxylum Rhetsa) is native to Indonesia. Villagers have been spooked seeing logs of this wood floating down the river because the bark resembles the back of a crocodile. White, relatively hard wood, polishing gives a smooth finish like ivory.
