Ra is the sun god of the ancient Egyptians , and Ra was a major god in the ancient Egyptian religion in the era of the Fifth Dynasty during the 24th and 25th centuries BC, and was symbolized by the sun disk at noon .
In later eras in the history of the Egyptian ruling families, (Ra) was joined to the god ( Horus ) so that his name became ? Ra-Horakhti ? meaning (Ra, is Horus of the horizons) - and Horus is the falcon or the supreme god and the ocean. It was believed that Ra-Harakhty is the ruling deity in all parts of the world: " heaven and earth " and " underworld ". The new image (Ra united with Horus) is related to the falcon or goshawk, which symbolizes Horus. In the era of the modern state that appeared in the period between the 16th and 11th centuries BC, the god Amun emerged on the scene to fuse with Ra as a united deity, " Amon - Ra " . During the Amarna period, Pharaoh Akhenaten suppressed the sect of Ra and the doctrine of "Amon - Ra" in favor of another religion that calls for the unification of the divinity of the sun itself or the "divine disk of the sun" - Aten , giving the deity of the sun a higher status than the abstract deities, but after the death of Akhenaten the sect of Ra regained its position.
The cult of worshiping the bull was Mnephis, an embodiment of Ra, and his worship centered on the city of ( On ), or ( Heliopolis ), which means the city of the sun as the Greeks called it, and there was an official cemetery for sacrificial bulls north of the city.
It was believed that Ra was the creator of all life forms, and he created each of them by calling them by their secret names. Instead, he created man from his tears and sweat, and thus the Egyptians called themselves "Anaam Ra." In the myth of the Heavenly Cow, he tells how humans conspired against Ra and how he sent his own eye, represented by the goddess Sekhmet, to punish them. When she became thirsty for blood, she calmed down by drinking beer mixed with a red dye.
