Item description
HIAWATHA NECKTIES DISPLAY ANTIQUE 1920s HAND PAINTED AMERICAN CHIEF ON LEATHER.
Antique Hand-painted Advertisment. The "Artist's conception" of an American Chief canoeing, painted on a Leather Wall Hanging. (This is not the product of any particular Indian Tribe or Alaska Native Village as per the Indian Arts and Craft Act of 1900. A law designed to protect the Native American art market from fraud) . This is a RARE FIND indeed ! Overall quality of painting is good and is most likely the " artist's conception" of an American Chief in headdress with a bow and arrow set in the boat canoeing along the shore of a a clear blue lake in the wilderness with a deer in the background. Cattails, white and yellow water lilies among lily pads in the foreground. Wooded trees in the background. Beautiful and Delightful! Clean and bright colors. Believed to be a advertisement for "Hiawatha Neckties," from Lake Placid, NY. See photo's. Unclear is the Stamp in lower left corner of painting: "ANGO" or "DANGO?" (See photo). Painted on leather hanging from wood with decorative brads. Measures 14 inches by 11.50 inches. This item is old. The color is good overall and the painting has some flaking. No noticeable odors. The edges appear to have a stamped burnished pattern done by hand, the edges are as shown with tears and fraying. Leather is pliable throughout with a few brittle spots near edges. Conditions appear to be from age of piece. Thought to be Circa 1920's or 1930's...? (If anyone knows any additonal information, I will happily post your thoughts in the ad). Sold "As Is." I could not find any specific info on items of this sort, so determining a approximate age and minimum value were difficult. The information I found was for contemporary paintings on leather and not pertinent to this piece. It would look lovely framed.
