Item description
RECOLLECTIONS OF A TEXAS COLONEL AT GETTYSBURG
By Colonel Robert M. Powell, 5th Texas Infantry, Edited by Gregory A. Coco, Maps by Daniel E. Fuhrman
Thomas Publications, ISBN #0-939631-26-1, Unstated printing, Copyright 1990
5.5" x 8.5", 62 page staple bound booklet. Late on the afternoon of Thursday, July 2, 1863, a volunteer regiment of Texas infantrymen, led by a 37-year-old lawyer, charged the enemy positioned on a small rocky ridge just south of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. In only minutes, 211 of these young men and their leader became casualties. Twenty-one years afterwards, the colonel of those Texans, Robert M. Powell, wrote about the memories of that fateful day when he and his small band of brave soldiers attacked the Union line on Little Round Top. Now, more than 100 years later, here are those exciting recollections of Colonel Powell's deadly battle up the famous hill, his wounding, and subsequent capture.
The booklet is complete and in VERY GOOD condition with some overall wear that includes some stains on the front and back covers. (see pictures)
