I've seen the base listed as a Japanese fishing basket for much more but it looks like it was intended to be a lamp or vase to me. There are some chipped or missing pieces of cane around the sides from age (see photos), but the lamp remains sturdy and displays beautifully. Shade is not included, so it?s ready to pair with a woven, burlap, or raffia shade of your choice.
