Item description
The image shows a U.S. Forest Service uniform button, likely dating back to 1907. Made by the Scoville Manufacturing Company in Waterbury. In 1911 the first uniforms were officially authorized for use by rangers in the park service. These uniforms were purchased from Parker, Bridget Company of Washington, D.C. 1909-1911

Key details:
Features a pine tree in the center with "FOREST" at the top and "SERVICE" at the bottom.
Stars are placed around the edges of the button.
The button was introduced after civilian uniforms and is seen in a 1910 photograph of a ranger.
The U.S. Forest Service manages 193 million acres of public lands.
The agency's mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of the nation's forests and grasslands.
