Item description
#MEIAZKA
Fragrant, sumptuously velvety deep purple-black flowers. Very heavy bloomer, 'Bowles Black' is a lovely low-growing violet that creates a carpet of beautiful mystique and intrigue in the garden. The dark blooms are striking en masse with the electric purple hues radiating from the darkest purple-black petals.
'Bowles Black' Violet seeds typically bloom 12 to 14 weeks after sowing, and can sometimes flower in as little as 14 weeks. The bloom time can vary depending on the species of viola.
Here are some tips for growing Viola cornuta 'Bowles Black' from seed and why they are one of my most beloved perennial Violets:
Temperature: The ideal temperature for growing Viola cornuta 'Bowles Black' is 62–68F. Perfect for starting indoors in Winter or Outdoors in early Spring.
Spacing: Space plants 6–9 inches apart.
Frost hardiness: Viola cornuta 'Bowles Black' is frost hardy.
Self-sowing: Once established, 'Bowles Black' will reliably self-sow, filling in all sorts of cracks and corners of your garden with their smiling faces.
Winter hardiness zones: winter hardy in zones 5–9.
Viola cornuta 'Bowles Black' is a perennial plant with black-violet flowers, deep green foliage, and a compact, vigorous growth habit. The flowers are edible and can be tossed into a spring green salad, candied and used as garnish and decoration for baked goods.
Sowing Instructions: Sow seeds in a tray with finer, peat based moistened media. Keep warm and moist at room temperature or warmer, maintaining moisture to avoid drying out. A humidity dome or plastic placed over the soil will help maintain humidity and moisture. Germination will occur over 4-6 weeks.
