Item description
Xanadu by Kipp Soldwedel, 1966. Shades of blue punctuated by colorful sail boats. Glass with red leather frame with gold stamped filagree. Measures 25.5? x 19.5? with a Hanging plate on the back. The frame shows some nicks to the Leather, please see photos. The paper is torn in spots on the back, but that of course is not visible when hung.
Born in 1913, American artist Kipp Soldwedel is known around the world for his beautiful depictions of maritime scenes. Soldwedel studied fine arts at Yale University, receiving four Beaux Arts medals there. He was later offered and accepted a scholarship at the renowned American Academy in Rome. Throughout his illustrious career, painter Kipp Soldwedel's illustrations were featured in various prestigious magazines such as National Geographic, Life, Town and Country, and Time.
Today, Soldwedel's work can be seen in the rotunda of the Statue of Liberty in New York City, and at the American National Art Museum of Sport
