Applied gilt U.S Not only is this wing individualistic with its large shield, but the unknown maker also used a small US collar insignia instead of the quarter-inch size prescribed in regulations. Weight: 8g This exact Aviators Wing is featured within Duncan's Reference Book "Aviation Badges and Insignia of the United States Army, 1913-1946, pages 17-18, Image #30, NOTE: This Wing originally sold at Bonhams on 2 June 2009 with the sold hammer price of $1,287 and that was 16 years ago. For those of you that still have Bonhams Catalogue dated June 2, 2009, please see pages 190-191 and attached images. As per Bonhams, this wing is attributed to George G. Titzell. At the time of this sale, Bonhams stated that this wing came together with a letter from the sister of George Titzell regarding the wing. Over the course of 16 years, that letter has been lost.
