1956 Black Calf Dress Uniform Oxford Shoes 9 and 48 similar items

Vintage USAF-issued black calf leather men's dress oxfords. These came from an estate in Oklahoma, just south of OKC if I recall correctly. I also got a flight jacket from this era from this estate, so I know he was in the Air Force. These are marked 9 1/2 A. The soles measure, on the outside, 3 15/16" across the ball of the foot and 12" in total length. Stamped inside each shoe: d-b-a Thom McCan shoemakers J. F. McElwain co. Dec. 7, 1956 9 1/2 A JI4002 9 CONT.DA-36-030-QM(CTM)-9416 PHILADELPHIA QM DEPOT Overall condition is good. I do note, on the right shoe, three missing stitches on the vamp above the arch. These saw so little use, it may be a factory flaw. You can see it in photo #3, it's the lower shoe. These have been worn several times, based on the wear to the soles and creases on the toebox, but appear to need nothing more than a good buffing. Soles are stiff, uppers are supple; there are many more years of wear in these, with appropriate care. Welted soles, so you can have them replaced when needed. Leather upper, lining, insole, and sole. These are "real" shoes, so to speak, unlike the glued-together plastic junk you find in stores today. They came to me in the box you see in the photos, which appears to be their original box, and is stamped AF(D? illegible) 16 MAR 1958 Supply Insp. 64. The box does have significant wear, most notably a pretty good tear in the bottom edge. Mostly from being squeezed, I think, perhaps during storage or in a suitcase. The box should survive shipping without trouble, but I will of course include some dunnage so it doesn't knock around in transit. It's older than I am, kinda seems like I owe it that much.
