Item description
Thank you and no I cannot say for sure which model of aircraft this was taken out of, terms in the title are to draw search results as much as anything else. The unit has not been tested and is sold as a historical collector's item but it appears to be in good working order. It is as you would guess, very heavy duty. I believe the same rheostat was used in a welder made by Joleco. Of course in the aircraft it was used for the purpose intended which was a level control for the heated flight suit clothing. Roughly 5" x 7 1/2" x 1 1/2".
Indicated as the property of the U. S. Army Air Forces. As such and considering the post-war cutbacks in forces, I expect this did see service in World War II. Dark Army green, some rust on the front and a little more around the back and sides but not bad by any means. Photos were a bit tricky, these were taken on a scanner.
Interesting piece of militaria and not something you see every day.
