Item description
1940 Metal Folding Chairs by American Seating of Grand Rapids Michigan
31H” x 21.5W” x 23D”
A more unusual pair of metal folding chairs, circa 1940, with padded vinyl seats and backs. Made by American Seating of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Possibly used in military applications. Salvaged from an institution in USA.
American Seating was founded in 1886. The company began manufacturing — in both wood and metal — folding, portable seating for classrooms, auditoriums, and churches. During World War II, it produced five million chairs for the U.S. Military. American Seating continues to make seating products for applications ranging from sporting venues to transit vehicles
