Published in 1860 it was the follow up to her book, ?Peasant Life in Germany?, which had been a moderate success. The customs, traditions, and daily experiences of Alpine inhabitants are examined and explained by a woman far ahead of her time. She captures the essence of a vanishing way of life in mid-19th-century Switzerland - now gone forever ? quite the distinctive, and informative book indeed, and yet another grand example of Captured Tyme.
