The vellum covered boards are moderately splayed as is common to period vellum, head edge of verso board split 2" at the front, general light soiling and age toning, some sporadic mild browning in the typeface area only.Giovanni Baptista Costa was head of the law school located in what was then Ticini, now Pavia, Italy. Roughly translated the title page reads: A Complete Treatise on Fundamental Law. The subject is described as being very profitable and in need of constant repetition. There are 109 chapters describing several cases from the everyday marketplace. These contain clear, brief and understandable methods derived from obvious general principles and in part from codes of written law. In addition, there are two indices in which names and places are in alphabetical order. Printed in Ticini by Andrae Viano 1611. A very beautiful and distinctive ancient tome indeed.
