KILIM
These Kilim rugs have a significant difference from hand-knotted rugsโthey are handwoven. As a result, they do not have a high pile of wool and are often flatter and rougher than knotted wool rugs. Their construction is less intricate, making them generally much more affordable. Additionally, Kilim rugs are much lighter and can be laid out on either side. Handwoven Kilims originally come from what was once Persia and are now also widely produced in Afghanistan. They typically feature simple, straight-line patterns, which are characteristic of their weaving technique.
HANDSPUN WOOL
This rug is made of hand spun sheep wool of the highest quality. Especially in Iran (former Persia), Afghanistan and Pakistan wool is still spun by hand before the actual knotting of the rug begins. Wool has proven itself as a natural and extremely hard-wearing material over centuries. Among other things, it has dirt-repellent and heat-insulating properties. At the same time, wool is incomparably soft and has a natural shine.
WOVEN BY HAND
This rug was made as a flat weave by hand on a loom. Flatweave is the term used to describe rugs that have no pile. As the name promises, these rugs are woven and not knotted. This results in a flat rug with a structured surface. Flatweaves are not as soft and usually thinner than knotted rugs. At the same time they are much less complex to manufacture and can usually be laid out from both sides (front and back). Their patterns are usually geometric, which is determined by the fabric.
