Item description

This is a vintage pair of Mid Century Salt Pepper shakers, made in Japan, in the form of brown stoneware jugs (or ewers, pitchers or crocks). They could be 2 differently sized, matching salt shakers as each is stamped with an "S" in gold. The "S" mark on the larger is barely visible, so I could be wrong. There is a sticker on the bottom of the larger shaker labeled, "JAPAN". This label was used after the end of occupied Japan, dating them to post 1952. My grandmother collected salt and pepper shakers and my father was stationed in Japan during the Korean Conflict, so a late 1950s date fits. These were kept on a display shelf, never used. The vintage shakers are in great shape, other than some light shelf wear on the bottom. (see photos). The larger is about 3.5" tall, the smaller about 2.5".
