Item description

Vintage original "RPPC" (Real Photo) souvenir view postcard. - IMAGE: A view of the 1950 version "The World's Only Corn Palace" in Mitchell, South Dakota (SD). - SIZE: approx 3.5" x 5.5" - BACK/Verso: Mailed 1950, w stamp and cancellation (see scan). - CONDITION/NOTES: VG+. Glossy finish. Minor corner bumps and edge wear from mailing, handling and storage (see scans). ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ - NOTE: RPPCs are actual photographs, printed from a negative onto specially made photo paper with postcard lettering on the back. Generally, there are two kinds: 1) Professional/Commercial, printed by a photo studio, or souvenir distributor. These were often sold in racks at stores and gift shops. 2) An amateur photograph printed on a postcard. These became popular back in the early days (1900s-1910s) when photography and the postcard craze merged. Personal photos could be printed in a home darkroom, or sent to a local photo-finisher.
