It is known for its fragrant, white, pea-like flowers, which appear in showy, drooping clusters in alternate years. It is planted for shade, accents, and its multi-seasonal interest, with light green foliage that turns yellow in the fall and smooth, greyish-yellow bark in winter. Provide full sun and moist, well-drained limestone soil.
