Item description
Exquisite Antique Original Gilded Gold Wood Carved Frame Mirror with Bevelled Glass. It represents the Rococo sytle o the time.
This distinctive Louis XV style with shells, curves and floral motiffs represents the epitomy of grand style and elegance of the reign of King Louis XV (1700-1750).
This sturdy masterpiece measures 5 feet wide by 4 feet high. It has mounting wire for the horizontal position but may be hung or placed on a mantle or floor vertically as well since there is an ornate flat frame around this massive mirror. The mirror itself is perfect with no discoloration.
Historical Note:
Louis XV style represents the French iteration of Rococo. It is what we think of when descrbing elegant surroundings and supreme craftsmanship. The term “rococo” is thought to be a portmanteau of the French words rocaille and coquilles “rock” and “shells”—organic motifs frequently used in architecture, sculpture and design of this style. Gentle S-curves and natural floral motifs are characteristic of the period. The delicate and asymmetrical designs are alluring and carved with beauty and percision.
