Item description
Popis produktu:
This piece presents a striking tribute to the emperor Antoninus Pius, one of the "Five Good Emperors" of Rome, who ruled from 138 to 161 CE. The obverse features his laureate portrait, accompanied by the imperial titulature. Known for his peaceful and prosperous reign, Antoninus Pius oversaw a long period of internal stability and legal reform. His calm governance is often symbolized in numismatic art by serene expressions and idealized features, as seen here. This coin is a modern reissue inspired by classical prototypes and pays homage to the numismatic elegance of his era.The reverse displays a majestic elephant in motion, accompanied by the inscription "MVNIFICENTIA AVG" and "POSITI" below, symbolizing imperial generosity. The elephant motif was historically employed to commemorate triumphs, public games, or grand gifts to the populace?often exotic animals that inspired awe. In Roman iconography, the elephant also alludes to military strength and distant conquests, especially those linked with Africa or the East. This piece captures both the imperial propaganda and artistic style of the Roman Empire in miniature form, making it an excellent addition to any collection focused on classical themes or historic motifs.
