Bob Dylan ~ Greatest Hits 'Originally released in 1967, this album does an excellent job of summarizing Dylan's best-known songs from his first seven albums. At just ten songs, it's a little brief, and the song selection may be a little predictable, but that's actually not a bad thing, since this provides a nice sampler for the curious and casual listener, as it boasts standards from "Blowin' in the Wind" to "Like a Rolling Stone." And, for collectors, the brilliant non-LP single "Positively Fourth Street" was added, which provided reason enough for anybody that already owned the original records to pick this up. This may have been supplanted by more exhaustive collections, but as a sampler of Dylan at his absolute peak, this is first-rate...' 10 tracks and 40 minutes. The Best of The Band 'With this album, Capitol Records began the inevitable process of repackaging the music of the Band, which the company would do at increasing length even though the Band were not a singles act and were hard to summarize in a compilation. That said, for the real neophyte, this single-disc, 11-song album may be as good as anything. It contains the Band's two most famous songs, "The Weight" and "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down," as well as the group's only Top 30 hit, "Up on Cripple Creek," and such songs as "Tears of Rage" and "Stage Fright" that they probably played at nearly every show they performed. The Band had a complex and sprawling history, but if you just want a snapshot, here it is...' 11 tracks and 47 minutes. On Capitol, catalog number CDP 546070 CD compilation album release.
