Item description

These are rooted plants of Bocking 14 comfrey. I started these plants from our own Bocking 14 Comfrey plants. Pots are approximately 3 - 5 inches across. The first photo is of my mother's mature Bocking 14 in her garden. The flower picture is of the flowers on my Bocking 14. The last pictures are of our goat, Bella, eating Bocking 14 comfrey. She thinks it is quite delicious! Bocking 14 does not spread by seed as most other comfrey does. Consequently it is not invasive! However if you disturb the roots it will spread by root. My advice is, plant it where you want it and don't mess with the roots unless you want it too spread at it's own will! Comfrey has a very deep root system. Consequently it brings up nutrients from far below. It is a very hardy perennial herb plant. USES FOR COMFREY: Bocking 14 is considered a good variety for medicinal use. It also makes excellent garden plant fertilizer! It grows fast. When it is ready to bloom or blooming you can cut it down and use the large leaves as mulch around your plants or you can use the leaves to make a tea for your plants or just add the leaves to your compost pile! My neighbor says this is her favorite plant in the garden! She allows hers to bloom and the bumblebees love it! Last but not least comfrey is a nutritious and delicious green feed for chickens, goats (see photos!), pigs, cattle, etc. I also have available Heirloom Comfrey. See Separate Listing. Photo of potted plants is an example of the plants I am shipping. You will receive your plants as bare root with most or all leaves trimmed off. If possible I try to leave a small leaf or two on the plant but the large leaves would create too much stress for the plant and would wilt! If purchasing during our dormant winter season there may be no leaves at all as all the leaves die back during continued freezing temperatures. But new leaves will soon grow when they are again planted in a warm place! I do not have a certified organic garden, however I never use any toxic sprays or fertilizers. I pick the beetles by hand, mulch my garden with bedding from the goats and chicken pens, leaves from our yard, grass clippings, etc., feed the plants with milk from my goat, molasses and other natural products depending what the need may be. The happy toads are on constant patrol.? The cheerful wren carefully inspects the nooks corners. The friendly bumble bees and many good bugs buzz and scamper through my garden!?? If you purchase more than one plant each additional plant will increase the postage by only 50 cents! Please feel free to contact me with any questions or any issues with placing your order! I am here to assist you! :) I generally check emails at least 2 times a day (except not on Sunday), so I generally will get back with you promptly! Please check out my other listings as well.
