From the publisher about this DVD:
Throughout his long life, the great Swedish director dealt with the problem of interpersonal relations, choosing to describe it either as a sublime parable, or as a psychoanalytic drama, or as a social satire. In the late 1970s, having crossed the threshold of his sixtieth birthday, Begman considered his mission in the cinema completed. The outstanding film "Fanny and Alexander" is the result of Bergman's spiritual searches, his paradoxical creative confession and encrypted testament, which every time will be rethought by descendants.
The director led the origin of this picture from his own dreams. In the book "Laterna Magica" Bergman wrote that old age brought him peaceful dreams, wonderful nostalgic performances, one of which he decided to transfer to the screen. In the history of the prosperous Swedish family Erdal, seen through the eyes of children - the girl Fanny and the boy Alexander - there is nothing from the usual style of Bergman. The space of the frame is filled with luxurious things and peaceful, prosperous people. And although the children will have to survive the death of their father and face evil in the person of their stepfather, the intervention of truly magical forces will return the idyll to their lives. Because art is not reality, but its transformation...
Lena Olin ("Queen of the Damned"), Harriet Anderson ("Dogville"), Erland Josefson ("After the Rehearsal") in Ingmar Bergman's film "Fanny and Alexander".
