Original Brazilian Vintage Collection of 8 Bone Parts ex votos (milagros) from the Northeast Region All authentic and collected by Folk Art Museum Curator during trips to Brazil This is a fantastic and rare ex voto lot from northeastern Brazil. The ex votos, or milagres (Portuguese for milagros) in the predominately Afro-Brazilian area of northern Brazil are uniquely carved from wood and frequently reflect the art of West Africa. The wooden figures, like most ex votos and milagros, are commissioned by a devotee and brought to a church as an offering for a promise fulfilled, frequently for health. These ex votos depict bone parts, perhaps reflective of the owner's members health problems. These beautiful and rare figures, carved from tropical wood, would be a great addition to any collection of devotional art!
