ROYAL COPENHAGEN 1917 Børnehjælps Dag Plate Boy with Flowers Børnehjælps Dag (or Bornehjaelps Dag) (Children’s Help Day) was an annual event to raise money for needy children in Denmark. As part of that effort, Royal Copenhagen produced these annual plates and donated the proceeds to Children’s Help Day Foundation. The series started in 1910 and continued through World War I and the Depression, ending with the Nazi occupation of Denmark in 1940. The scene is embossed on Danish porcelain and hand painted under the glaze. Diameter approximately 5 inches (12.5 cm). Designed by Christian Thomsen, a collectable artist in his own right. Pierced foot for hanging wire. Appropriately marked on the back, including the three wavy line trademark of Royal Copenhagen.
