Based on the howling success of Dracula, this dramatic, intelligent thriller explores the relationship of the mysterious count Alucard (Dracula spelled backwards) and an occult -worshiping woman obsessed with obtaining eternal life. The vampire, Lon Chaney Jr, is a suave villain incapable of human expression, but captivating nonetheless. The female main character is deeply attracted to him and welcomes his bloodthirsty advances in the hope of joining the vampire world. Good dialogue and plot construction, and some well plan special effects, add to this atmospheric tail. Ironically, Lon Cheney Sr played the vampire in the movie, ?London after midnight? and was slated for the original role of Dracula, but died before it went into production. The role then went to Bella Lugosi. Through a horror film star in his own right, Lon Cheney Jr probably carried on the vampire tradition with a roll that he could really sink his teeth into!
