Vintage photograph album, approximately 13 by 10 inches, 1 1/2 inches thick, blue heavy card cover with embossed map of Alaska. Sampling of photos are shown here. There are a couple of newspaper clips which help to date and identify. This album belonged to a woman who grew up in Massachusetts, attended Framingham State (then predominately a teacher's college), graduated, and moved to Petersburg, Alaska, to establish a home economics department at their high school, where she also taught art. The photos include some airport scenes and airplane views of her arrival, what was probably the home in which she lived, typical photos of friends/family, a good number of harbor views, fishery related views, downtown - post office, stores, Hotel Arctic - some views which appear to be taken at work (school), a lot of ocean tankers/fishing vessels, etc. A handwritten note seems to describe some of the photos in the album and indicates that she spent 22 years in Alaska and was there definitively in 1951. There is a photo processor envelope with a 1956 date. I'd date the date at late 1940s through the 1950s. The album has some of the phots glued down, some mounted with photo corners, and some attached with bits of tape. There are a few photos that are damaged, scraped from maybe have become stuck together at some point. Total photos: 358, along with a few postcards, a couple of photo negatives, and some miscellaneous items.
