This is a UNIQUE, Hard-To-Find, VINTAGE, Like-NEW, EXCELLENT Condition, Hand Crafted "Hand Carved Wood Carving African Folk Art Wooden Safari Jungle Animal Antelope Gazelle Figure Figurine Statue Serving Dish Display Bowl Plate" handmade in Kenya, Africa in the mid-1960s. My neighbor’s brother was a doctor who spent part of 1964 and 1965 providing medical care in Kenya; this WONDERFUL Carved Antelope Bowl was given to him by a patient. Upon his return, he displayed it inside a glass cabinet with other African objects from his stay in Kenya. Recently deceased, my neighbor is in the process of selling the contents of his home. This STUNNING piece is in EXCELLENT Condition but displays two cracks: (1) Dish Bowl has a crack that does not go all the way through - it was done during the original carving process (2) the carved “grass” upon which the Antelope stands - this damage was done when the maker screwed the carving onto the base. Otherwise, there are NO marks, stains, odors, chips, cracks or other damage; it comes from a smoke-free, pet-free home. This Wood Statue has a length of approximately 4 inches, a height of approximately 5 inches and a depth of approximately 2 inches with the leaf shaped bowl dish on top measuring approximately 5 inches long and approximately 2 3/4th inches wide; it is NOT Marked or Signed. With a graceful shape and nicely detailed features, it was ENTIRELY hand carved by a SUPERBLY talented artist who has created a primitively BEAUTIFUL HANDSOME Figure. Finished with the utmost care and attention to detail, it has an ALLURING shape and design. The workmanship has WONDERFUL texture and flowing lines showing off the wood grain and colors to PERFECTION. A UNIQUE work of African Folk Art that is both ELEGANT and PRIMITIVE at the same time, it has a RUSTIC charm. Carved from solid African Hardwood, the Antelope Gazelle features an interesting design of two-colored wood, while the bowl dish on top is tricolored. Highly collectible, it is a thick, well-weighted piece that is a FUN and EXOTIC addition to any room and is sure to be complimented on by everyone who sees it.
