Ethereal painting, signed by the artist HLK, this is a copy of Circle Dancing, by Franz Von Stuck (1863-1928), of Germany, oil on canvas.
Although this is an original oil painting, research shows that it is a copy, signed initials HLK, of a painting by Franz Von Stuck, titled Circle Dancing, or Dance of the Wind, painted around 1908. Franz Von Stuck died in 1928. Painting is now in the public domain according to research.
The artist HLK I have not been able to identify. Painting is old, purchased at a local living estate sale approx 20 years ago. Framed it measures approx 22 x 21 inches. The painting on artist's board itself, measures approx 17.5 x 16.75 inches and in the frame it is approx 2 inches deep.
It is a lovely old painting, likely needs a bit of cleaning. I lifted the backing up to check for additional information and there are no writings on the back. The frame needs tightening at the corners and the backing needs to be either replaced or retaped.
Research reflects that "This work is in the public domain in the United States because it was published (or registered with the U. S. Copyright Office) before January 1, 1930.
It is a lovely vintage painting, even though a copy. Buyer to pay shipping. I will package carefully in a box and ship promptly.
