Item description
8 x 10 in. US single-weight glossy copy photograph (not a vintage original photo printed at the time it was taken) of motion picture actress ANN SAVAGE.
This photograph was inscribed by Ann Savage later in her life to motion picture historian, author, and collector, Robert S. Birchard, thusly: "To Bob: Where's my plaque? Ann Savage." Miss Savage was a guest at one of the many "Cinecon" classic film festivals in Hollywood, and each year, various stars were awarded a plaque for their contribution to the film industry. Apparently, Miss Savage had yet to receive a plaque from the organization which Mr. Birchard was President of for many years, and she jokingly reminded him about her wanting a plaque of her own. It is in very fine condition as shown.
Silent Cinema Inc. (the seller here) guarantees the authenticity of Ann Savage's inscription and signature.
Ann Savage (born Berniece Maxine Lyon, February 19, 1921 – December 25, 2008) was an American film and television actress. She is best remembered as the vile cigarette-puffing femme fatale in the critically acclaimed film-noir, Detour (1945). She featured in more than 20 B movies between 1943 and 1946. Effectively leaving the film business in the mid-1950s, Savage made occasional appearances on television and worked for industrial and inspirational film producers from the 1950s to the 1970s. She made a number of live appearances at film festivals, especially for screenings of Detour. In 2007 she was cast by director Guy Maddin as his mother in My Winnipeg, "a part that had been tipped to bring her an Academy Award and which introduced her to a legion of new fans".
