A candy as simple as they come, Japanese Ogontoh hard candies are pure cane sugar candies that deliver sweetness without compromising on the sugar. Translating to "golden sugar," these candies have been enjoyed for 3 generations and have maintained the same approach in making their pure confections. Similar to honey, try the golden sugar candies for a taste of sugar in as close to its purest form possible.
Ingredients: Sugar, corn syrup.
Ogontoh is a candy popular in Japan, especially in the Kansai area, since 1923. Though the package seems like the French flag, it is a Japanese product. ?Ogon? means ?gold? and ?tou? (or ?toh?) means ?sugar.?
This candy is made of only sugar and mizuame, so it has a quite simple taste that isn?t very unique. However, it makes you want to eat it again and again. Mizuame (??) is a sweetener from Japan which is translated literally to ?water candy?. A clear, thick, sticky liquid, it is made by converting starch to sugars.
