Item description
Trees and shrubs from the Ebony family live for hundreds of years, differ in appearance, shape and shade of fruits. Although the first persimmons were cultivated by the Chinese, the largest berries surprise varieties grown in South America. In the countries of Transcaucasia and Greece, trees with miniature fruits weighing less than 50 grams are planted. Israeli breeders have created a seedless Sharon. Growing persimmons is not so difficult to do, if you know the characteristics of the selected variety.
Trees from the Ebony family reach 15 meters in height, shrubs โ 5. The oval leaves of the persimmon, which are pointed at the ends, fall off every year. The outer side of them is shiny, and the inner side is matte. The diameter of the fruit in some varieties is only 2 cm, in others it reaches 15. The berries hang on the tree when there are no leaves at all, which turn a bright red color before falling, but the plant does not remain without them for long.
How the fruit looks depends on the stage of maturation, and on the variety. In a ripe fruit, the skin becomes reddish, and the flesh becomes like jelly, loses its tart taste. There are 5-7 seeds in the berries, but hybrids may not have grains.
CARE INSTRUCTIONS:
In a temperate climate, a tropical crop will not please with high yields of large fruits, even when choosing an early variety, but if you annually prune the crown, the southern plant will perfectly decorate the garden.
Lovers of indoor flowers plant persimmons in tubs and vases. It takes root well if you choose high-quality seeds. You can prepare the seed material yourself from a ripe and healthy fruit. Germinate the bones in a wet cloth, wrapping them in cellophane. In a warm place after 2 or 3 weeks, sprouts appear.
The second method is suitable for those who are going to grow the crop in the open ground. In order not to buy a wild bird, a young tree should be bought in a nursery. Planting is carried out in the spring, the root neck should be deepened by about 10 cm by grafting on the southern side. The ground is lightly rammed, watered, and mulched.
In the garden, low trees are placed according to the 3 x 3 scheme, 7 meters are left between the tall varieties. When buying a high-quality seedling, persimmon can please with fruits already in the third year, if you create all the necessary conditions for it.
In order for the tropical culture to perform not only decorative functions, but also to flourish luxuriantly, reward the harvest, the place for planting the tree is chosen on the site where the piercing wind does not blow, there are no drafts. Any soil is suitable, except for swampy soils and salt marshes. In a temperate climate, frost-resistant early varieties normally take root, and trees are planted in the spring. For several years, they will have to be carefully covered for the winter.
After selecting the seeds from the ripe persimmon fruits, they can be planted at home in a pot. After stratification, the seeds are deepened by 1 or 2 cm into the soil prepared from: humus; turf earth; wood ash; bone meal; coarse sand.
