It installs in-line between your 12 volt "hot" power source and the power wire of the head unit. It also has a separate ground wire to help make it work more effectively. Static, engine noise, and other interference can often be introduced when installing aftermarket accessories. This can help to reduce and/or eliminate those problems. Keep in mind that "engine noise" can come from a number of sources and is directly relative to the quality of the overall installation and the equipment used. This is often a low-cost solution that overcomes many of these problems but does not always work in every situation. It's a very easy fix and always worth a try since it's a very simple install.
